I sit down to write a blog post every few months. The post makes it to the draft stage, I go hunting for photos, get distracted, and that's the end of that.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am determined to get this one posted. Just like I am determined to get organised this year.</div>
<div>
The <a href="http://quiltersplanner.com/product/quilters-planner-2017/" target="_blank">Quilters Planner</a> was to be my saviour. So let's just ignore the fact it's more than mid-way through April and celebrate a finish.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So what do you need to get organised? Cover the planner comes to mind...<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
This <a href="http://quiltersplanner.com/product/the-zippy-quilters-planner-cover-pdf-pattern/" target="_blank">zippy cover tutorial</a> is provided on the Quilters Planner website and was easy...and more importantly...fun to make.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Confession time...I hoard selvedges. This just seemed to be the most perfect use for them, and the way it's turned out...well let's just say that I can't wipe the silly grin off my face.</div>

<br />
Several years ago I impulse bought (confession number two: nothing has changed over the years), some fabrics from the "Cuteville Country Fair" range, mostly because of the red and blue colourways of the paisley.<br />
I've used it for the inside front and back flap covers and the contrast gingham and triangle patterns make me very happy.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Inside back flap cover</td></tr>

<div>
The cover has a zip pouch at the front, a pocket on each inside flap, a needle minder on the inside front. There's a scissor minder and business card sized pocket...credit cards fit too... on the back. The obligatory measuring tape twill bookmark is there too...and elastic to hold it closed.<br />
I am convinced all that stuff that will make me churn out quilts at an alarming rate...<br />
<br />
So now I have the outside all sorted...time to make a start on <b><i>using</i></b> the inside...<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Things have been quiet on one side of the fence - hardly any "posts" (ha ha, I crack myself up sometimes), but over on my side, it's been a hectic rush of HSC major works, the MatH (Man about the House) travelling for work, my (paid) job, housework (unpaid job) and a sanity-saving amount of sewing...oh not to mention the fantastic trip to visit family and friends on the other side of the world that happened earlier in the year.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So where to start...maybe I'll just work backwards...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Currently in the sewing room, and spread out through the laundry and the lounge room, is the 21st birthday quilt -for the 22 yr BatH (boy about the house) who will get it before he turns 23!</div>

<div>
The kaleidoscope blocks come from the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/1481102@N24/" target="_blank">SBH flickr swap</a> that I was in, in 2012. I still have to add the top and bottom grey borders, another border of 12" sawtooth stars (cutting in progress), a 6" light blue and dk blue strip border (cut and pieced) and the last border will be black/dkgrey & white/light grey flying geese (thought about).</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Some delicious fabric has made its way into the house...</div>
<div>
MoMo...old and new ranges...totally addicted...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
Sunday Sewalong at the <a href="http://gwsmodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">GWSMQG</a> are a highlight of each month...yeah I don't get out a lot!<br>
<div>
Last weekend was the June Sunday, and a plan was hatched to have a group sew along - and what better to sew together than the <a href="https://www.google.com.au/search?q=sew+together+bag&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=T4emU-eoAc6nkQWHrYDICg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1093&bih=545" target="_blank">Sew Together Bag</a>. This is a downloadable pattern from Sew Demented on<a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/sewing/accessory/sew-together-bag/36309" target="_blank"> Craftsy</a></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I really shouldn't have started yet another project,</div>
<div>
but the fact,</div>
<div>
* it is FINISHED,</div>
<div>
* it was great to have assistance from someone who'd already made it,</div>
<div>
* I cut into my Charley Harper fabric,</div>
<div>
* it doesn't take up a lot of fabric,</div>
<div>
* you can use scraps to make the outer shell, and</div>
<div>
* you'll lose your fear of zips,<br></div>
<div>
I figured I'd was ahead before I'd even started!</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrIcKpcKSwbxTh4Z-rvAYEqBQPw4ie3CuBexg2NV11KUgoQR_mmymA6V9t9T_JqEjrN-Wwr0dIQiJLxCU6F4QJiK8j12OPEXTqBTW-xvrAYus60YQdAL0sCUAZByU6l6Fb89n4Ls33vgz/s640/blogger-image--1155441159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrIcKpcKSwbxTh4Z-rvAYEqBQPw4ie3CuBexg2NV11KUgoQR_mmymA6V9t9T_JqEjrN-Wwr0dIQiJLxCU6F4QJiK8j12OPEXTqBTW-xvrAYus60YQdAL0sCUAZByU6l6Fb89n4Ls33vgz/s640/blogger-image--1155441159.jpg"></a></div>
<br></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<br></div>
<div>
So two of the things that I learnt from following in someone else's footsteps are:<br>
a) that the zipper tabs are a fiddly as all get out, and<br>
b) an 18" zipper is a tight fit if you're trying to avoid the metal bit, luckly I did have a 20" zipper (thanks <a href="http://instagram.com/iamacraftykat" target="_blank">@iamacraftykat</a>).</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The Quilt Barn has a<a href="http://quiltbarn.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/sewalong-day-1.html" target="_blank"> sewalong</a> on the blog that is worth checking out for great detail on the construction.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One problem I found with the pattern is the minimal photos and diagrams. The explanation of the zipper tabs seems a bit unclear and th</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">ere are no photos or diagrams of this particular step. The way it is done in the <a href="http://www.quiltbarn.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/sewalong-day-5-final-post.html" target="_blank">Quilt Barn Sew Along</a>, looks really awkward (to me, anyway)...much better to sew the sides first rather than all that pinning and trying to get folded seam allowances to stay put.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The way I sewed them is perhaps what the pattern instructs you to do, but with the lack of diagrams, it's hard to tell. The ones I sewed </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">just slip onto the end of the zipper...</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Anyway here goes with my version:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">- fold your fabric in half and finger press the fold.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">- open out and with wrong side facing up, turn up the short raw edge towards the fold and iron or finger press - I turned up mine about 1 1/4", on either side of the fold.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"></span><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnwjXbug9ni-EpaJUWbgwUoqVIWtAj4Sgv3eKsE3xNfBGm-UUOvpPJan3NYIkhIw49QzfqsiWC5nLsHn6U7RJLgThS4uD1Rft50fiGAc-ELKOOG6zjlJ0_iftSFxynWkHN0fzj97Osqa40/s640/blogger-image-372822217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnwjXbug9ni-EpaJUWbgwUoqVIWtAj4Sgv3eKsE3xNfBGm-UUOvpPJan3NYIkhIw49QzfqsiWC5nLsHn6U7RJLgThS4uD1Rft50fiGAc-ELKOOG6zjlJ0_iftSFxynWkHN0fzj97Osqa40/s400/blogger-image-372822217.jpg" width="400"></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">- the fold in half again with right sides together, and pin to hold in place.</span></div>
<div>

Well hello 2014...where did you come from? Sneaking up on me like that...you should be ashamed of yourself! You're here to stay you say? Ok I'll have to make the best of it then!<br />
<br />
I did say that my next post would be about making mini-bunting, and even if it has taken 3 months, here it is!<br />
<br />
Just to recap, the bunting postcard was made for the <a href="http://dowhatyouloveforlife.com/blog/2013/09/the-great-big-stitched-postcard-swap-is-back-design-course-giveaway/" target="_blank">Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap #6</a> . It made it into the <a href="http://dowhatyouloveforlife.com/blog/2013/11/stitched-postcard-swap-showcasethe-great-big-stitched-postcard-swap-round-up-celebrate/" target="_blank">round-up post</a>, which was a bit of a buzz!<br />
<br />
So, if you've ever felt like making minuscule bunting you've come to the right place...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Gather your supplies:</div>
<div>
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>scraps of fabric - smallest size is 1 1/4" squares.. I had quite a few 2 1/2" squares that I cut in half and then used one of the halves to make two small squares, keep the other 1 1/4" x 2 1/2" rectangle for the bunting "string".</li>
<li>quilters awl or unpicker or even a small skewer ( helps with holding and folding)</li>
<li>tweezers (ditto ) </li>
<li>usual sewing supplies, sewing machine etc...(you're not silly I shouldn't have to point out the obvious!)</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhic48P15CZNXjybw0-kk8uat18xp2lPXNb5IGwH-t_9HD3pg3cu8UCPz8KpyXE3Oz_993G74zrc8yOjCRfz5WbuO6NgXJclmzJ4ZqEVwE4PQqQW7Vtp3frQb7p3BGRFR91ik48Lvqy4U2u/s640/blogger-image--1344474340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="pretty scraps" border="0" height="392" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhic48P15CZNXjybw0-kk8uat18xp2lPXNb5IGwH-t_9HD3pg3cu8UCPz8KpyXE3Oz_993G74zrc8yOjCRfz5WbuO6NgXJclmzJ4ZqEVwE4PQqQW7Vtp3frQb7p3BGRFR91ik48Lvqy4U2u/s400/blogger-image--1344474340.jpg" title="pretty scraps" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Cut 1 1/4" squares from your scraps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEajVoROHcuiyK1meUb_ECzp-R8usyJAZ9mQGGxRJKuYdMu-F0DcWgXdY7fD6oopMMQ5VBUCYNWGqZFVwTH6HT6De6Pn7A8NTQEGhgprvXzpV86JiVKuhBfdsDRJV43QSkYxoTP__JBXiS/s640/blogger-image-430726489.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="1.25" scrap squares" border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEajVoROHcuiyK1meUb_ECzp-R8usyJAZ9mQGGxRJKuYdMu-F0DcWgXdY7fD6oopMMQ5VBUCYNWGqZFVwTH6HT6De6Pn7A8NTQEGhgprvXzpV86JiVKuhBfdsDRJV43QSkYxoTP__JBXiS/s400/blogger-image-430726489.jpg" title="1.25" scrap squares" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
If you are using 2 1/2" squares, cut them in half, and make two small squares and one rectangle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here's my finished pile of 1 1/2" squares and the leftover rectangles...make mine rainbow thanks!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

(I didn't realise how bad these photos were but if I wait to take them again in better light this tutorial might get posted sometime in 2014! <i>ha ha ha guess what? It does get posted in 2014 and the pics didn't get retaken!)</i><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Take one square and fold it in half to form a rectangle:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_P3ev-3EqWekXaEFFKleX4N-0nzB3JecHd3Tm-Tpp8ZnpMfnx2KLShPLilp5rTS1qkvWxOUDOYgjAhFIvtd9NmpeVJ_rOwz_wTySjghBWrey4aQe_QWd0XnuD4ZnK-TiGkVl7c5GfQkXT/s640/blogger-image--1514557162.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="fold square in half" border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_P3ev-3EqWekXaEFFKleX4N-0nzB3JecHd3Tm-Tpp8ZnpMfnx2KLShPLilp5rTS1qkvWxOUDOYgjAhFIvtd9NmpeVJ_rOwz_wTySjghBWrey4aQe_QWd0XnuD4ZnK-TiGkVl7c5GfQkXT/s400/blogger-image--1514557162.jpg" title="fold square in half" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Fold the bottom right hand corner of the folded edge up to about 1/3 in from the left hand edge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLefq4xLxjqQrmOmorS6vUbjLbQEv5kBNce5kBf4lYWCitea_PmwEx9nMTqIngrdlFDSQY6618eKQdY8DzRlyK2j3Ne1soXx8KHWw7AqCe57YzY-2nwq7pb3nFeYypEh_zIMMFhRaCNpjC/s640/blogger-image--195798136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLefq4xLxjqQrmOmorS6vUbjLbQEv5kBNce5kBf4lYWCitea_PmwEx9nMTqIngrdlFDSQY6618eKQdY8DzRlyK2j3Ne1soXx8KHWw7AqCe57YzY-2nwq7pb3nFeYypEh_zIMMFhRaCNpjC/s400/blogger-image--195798136.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Then take the other folders corner and bring it up to lap over to the right hand side - you've basically folded the rectangle into 3. Make sure you have a nice sharp point at the bottom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSTzsBFjsojx5949XAt94WoUh4bHDu_Xht0_ZSLbDWWDs7YTHyzNwtPR_61ux3xyBTnh2VA1IbFILdlngSmgqR2-7VG-0ju64EY02GbgCvflgR4xS0ToFai8pw6MEZPj9tNPr-BFlBoN8E/s640/blogger-image--1532957535.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSTzsBFjsojx5949XAt94WoUh4bHDu_Xht0_ZSLbDWWDs7YTHyzNwtPR_61ux3xyBTnh2VA1IbFILdlngSmgqR2-7VG-0ju64EY02GbgCvflgR4xS0ToFai8pw6MEZPj9tNPr-BFlBoN8E/s400/blogger-image--1532957535.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Turn it over - tweezers are a big help here- so the "pointy" bits and fold are at the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixcakp0syAnMaBtR0w1L9adhPrLxT6IW9UC_R2lmGAFxe7s4rFhm_Jp_jZVj62x3t5ZrTR8R78BKeRM_AWnIGy5SmpyT97oGFRy1efwtE4PQ_EGQunk-HI_iMQ_Ukt7-1pDqd3OGU04h9r/s640/blogger-image--1364413558.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixcakp0syAnMaBtR0w1L9adhPrLxT6IW9UC_R2lmGAFxe7s4rFhm_Jp_jZVj62x3t5ZrTR8R78BKeRM_AWnIGy5SmpyT97oGFRy1efwtE4PQ_EGQunk-HI_iMQ_Ukt7-1pDqd3OGU04h9r/s400/blogger-image--1364413558.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you fold each one, feed them through the machine with the aid of your unpicker/awl/skewer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxpszLVGBNDiv-DUuGJT0sbcChkZfk_BJEOMzD_9F1y7sJlc2iFKLMfE8nw5_Tof7op_wNFy1PoQmxw7dS3INGWodljUsWT3XTmIbPskpCyJYUmog6ZnlM5ggHjTSfktKYr964IcAHauQF/s1600/IMG_0706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxpszLVGBNDiv-DUuGJT0sbcChkZfk_BJEOMzD_9F1y7sJlc2iFKLMfE8nw5_Tof7op_wNFy1PoQmxw7dS3INGWodljUsWT3XTmIbPskpCyJYUmog6ZnlM5ggHjTSfktKYr964IcAHauQF/s400/IMG_0706.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't separate them, leave them in one long line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hard to tire of looking at all that cuteness!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp_zOoxuCURllHP_qe4KenIiZAfK8wPrYQuwkoFQX69RyZ0ilckuqA5KtDKl9PDoHG9aKhhEiHUBQjhXgGH-fTYjyulbTpmHHxCHXmr8CtlHsACijcasVrL5YCbtk_K4qmmOTRKEPq7XGd/s640/blogger-image-1211592607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp_zOoxuCURllHP_qe4KenIiZAfK8wPrYQuwkoFQX69RyZ0ilckuqA5KtDKl9PDoHG9aKhhEiHUBQjhXgGH-fTYjyulbTpmHHxCHXmr8CtlHsACijcasVrL5YCbtk_K4qmmOTRKEPq7XGd/s400/blogger-image-1211592607.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
Now you've done the bunting, sew those rectangles together into one long strip, open out the seams and iron them flat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjSYqsHWpwHnRt_UeKnJ0JgeAy5dPlJgix1PIrtl1fV2pZK02JT4Pq1HN41JL9iOUrKzI0p6kzHsQOKHesd3I_UJ51UjomYrOw3auUxvoPxUosUI-VST8x7UpSEsm4xwtvw1AHSyCdNApk/s1600/IMG_0711.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjSYqsHWpwHnRt_UeKnJ0JgeAy5dPlJgix1PIrtl1fV2pZK02JT4Pq1HN41JL9iOUrKzI0p6kzHsQOKHesd3I_UJ51UjomYrOw3auUxvoPxUosUI-VST8x7UpSEsm4xwtvw1AHSyCdNApk/s400/IMG_0711.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
Then fold them in half down the length, iron well...starch is your friend with this mini stuff...open out the fold, and then fold each long side into the centre and iron well again (see picture below), just like you are making binding, which of course is exactly what you are doing!<br />
Start inserting the first little triangle and clip in place. See how they are all chained together - you just shove and peg, shove and peg, till you get the arrangement you want.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKNZTyvvneph2l6YfU_HbImhSz_13RWMUWMwgBF8ZAV-217fls-DULOiHRFA9Yf-ZDstvMuxKLpD7pWp2ky8tKAgohtwNK72xVmegEdLL7mWnkC03Sm70VR0PHED6Pz4KC9WVpCIbwrGaS/s640/blogger-image-1259491717.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKNZTyvvneph2l6YfU_HbImhSz_13RWMUWMwgBF8ZAV-217fls-DULOiHRFA9Yf-ZDstvMuxKLpD7pWp2ky8tKAgohtwNK72xVmegEdLL7mWnkC03Sm70VR0PHED6Pz4KC9WVpCIbwrGaS/s400/blogger-image-1259491717.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I made two strips as they fitted the layout of the 6" x 4" postcard.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixDotzZdAgaIkyyK5BQnzTpFW6OdTu1TnTimZRqf-1G3kurqvp01QLDJCqqSWvyIz-Fw_QrgN1djruk-IQ6k3vDp4u6lQn-Y830zZP48eueXLw6Lubbyq-xT0X2FSnC3Uygdd_uIQzLTwJ/s640/blogger-image-686967636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixDotzZdAgaIkyyK5BQnzTpFW6OdTu1TnTimZRqf-1G3kurqvp01QLDJCqqSWvyIz-Fw_QrgN1djruk-IQ6k3vDp4u6lQn-Y830zZP48eueXLw6Lubbyq-xT0X2FSnC3Uygdd_uIQzLTwJ/s400/blogger-image-686967636.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The binding hides the stitches and keeps those pesky tails that may not quite get sewn, hidden away too!<br />
Snip off the tips of the prominent pointy bits if they didn't fit neatly, but be careful not to cut your stitches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOjAJFgXCQhRI3d6NKfJMvIktl7x7rTkV6XDmxTpaN-jMcedP6CZqVsQhGgPHR7HSV3c85r5_Hzj2Bi3UsUKpJvkwIcP_R1MzRj3b7e70B1AAPcJhhdsAgXIU3mL2XVGlFOOZx7l_xk8Q/s640/blogger-image-1594979318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOjAJFgXCQhRI3d6NKfJMvIktl7x7rTkV6XDmxTpaN-jMcedP6CZqVsQhGgPHR7HSV3c85r5_Hzj2Bi3UsUKpJvkwIcP_R1MzRj3b7e70B1AAPcJhhdsAgXIU3mL2XVGlFOOZx7l_xk8Q/s400/blogger-image-1594979318.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I sewed <b>slowly</b> over each piece and it fed through the machine fine.<br />
I tried my zipper foot but the results were pretty ordinary, so I went back to the general sewing foot. I also lengthened the stitches which gave a nice effect<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR3HwYzmhL7toaNQQgaFbMcASr0-FYAZ64aW1I_g3gMXVWDInfCsvgKPmKfZVfXLUN8y8C8NV-dBVxQm_sXgha82r9k8BwxmM-d8F0zqdRHqR_-40d9vmLLcYvXjG0IrHoyCsEce8W4uKJ/s640/blogger-image-1579917653.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR3HwYzmhL7toaNQQgaFbMcASr0-FYAZ64aW1I_g3gMXVWDInfCsvgKPmKfZVfXLUN8y8C8NV-dBVxQm_sXgha82r9k8BwxmM-d8F0zqdRHqR_-40d9vmLLcYvXjG0IrHoyCsEce8W4uKJ/s400/blogger-image-1579917653.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's the finished product again:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVA_y7xuRpHZOeHBw6C6QGtlLJo4J2Q6Ayx5AwiMDzpX3wRQhjR9Tp3OxqMR26MbLrT21uxwRQGBVkTsZ4LHiQjNmMSX7kOGgHz1f0zC1AlZqZoQk3sW-uWZ5raRGL-6PJA8-2So6p_6Lc/s1600/IMG_0604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVA_y7xuRpHZOeHBw6C6QGtlLJo4J2Q6Ayx5AwiMDzpX3wRQhjR9Tp3OxqMR26MbLrT21uxwRQGBVkTsZ4LHiQjNmMSX7kOGgHz1f0zC1AlZqZoQk3sW-uWZ5raRGL-6PJA8-2So6p_6Lc/s400/IMG_0604.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you have fun making mini bunting...now wasn't that worth the wait?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Thanks for taking a peek over the fence...</i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I bought the <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2013/01/divided-basket-pattern.html" target="_blank">Noodlehead basket pattern</a> to make for my partner for the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/the_sewing_room_swap/pool/" target="_blank">Sewing Room Swap</a>, then I wished I had the <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2013/06/social-tote-pattern-collab-with-carolyn_25.html" target="_blank">social tote pattern</a> instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I forged ahead and made my own version of a project carry tote for carting various sewing projects around...you know...as far as the lounge while watching Sherlock or Elementary, my usual Sunday night treat before the week begins in earnest! I based it on the<a href="http://quilary1.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/february-finishes-swaps-and-boms.html" target="_blank"> tote I made for this swap</a> earlier in the year.</div>

I had promised myself that I'd do two "block of the months" this year (surely I could find two days a month to sew...ha ha ha ha ha, what<i> was</i> I thinking?) I've only managed to get two<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/2183212@N20" target="_blank"> Doctor Who</a> paper pieced blocks made...The T.A.R.D.I.S.</div>

The theme is celebrate and I've made the cutest little bunting...the card size is just over 6" x 4" so the bunting is fairly tiny. Next post I'll run a few tutorial pictures so you can make your own...you know, just in case you get the urge to make miniature, cutesy bunting of your own!<br />

This little portable thread/scrap bin was inspired by the <a href="http://www.redhenfabrics.com/images/hiplist/threadcatcher.pdf">Thread Catcher</a> tutorial on Red Hen Fabric's <a href="http://www.redhenfabrics.com/RegularPages/HipQuickGifts.html#Thread">quick projects page</a>. I wanted to be able to <b>machine</b> finish most of the project - there is still hand sewing...but nothing like the stand out dodgy running stitches I did to keep the hoop in place.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This tutorial makes a casing where you can push in a stiffening piece instead of the wooden hoop. I used <a href="http://www.ortensia.com.au/product.php?productid=16142">rigilene</a> for this tutorial and in one prototype, I used the plastic strapping that comes off packages!</div>

Fold your fabric in half, short sides together and sew the side seam, using a<b> 1/2" seam allowance,</b> up to the first pencil mark, back stitch a few times, lift your needle out and move to the next pencil mark and commence sewing again - backstitch here too. Sew to the end.<br />

Then thread the rigilene/plastic strapping through the gap and push the tails inside behind one another. The fabric tube will keep the round shape nicely. (It's just occurred to me that if you want a firmer top, just cut a much longer length and feed around twice).<br />

<span style="color: red;">*handsewing alert! </span>Sew the gap together with small whip stitch or ladder stitch...don't groan it's only 5/8" long!<br />
<br />
The rest of the tutorial is pretty much the same technique that the original Red Hen Fabric's tutorial.<br />
<b><i>Making the base:</i></b><br />
Take one of your fabric circles, one of the cardboard circles and the batting piece. Layer as shown in the photo, then gather the fabric up like you are making a large yo-yo. Pull up firmly and tie off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0MocXeMy3kuF-yX2wBTMp5HxGs1NkxHLqA_52ga51fV2FMcBwAHNxzkAyEcfU_bpHw1OD8u0WPMTlFQRbisrozAs9BLRqPuD_5pxuyPWZqIkXM9iARupQ6IITvdzBPWJONGDEb7EpQfUK/s1600/IMG_0595.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0MocXeMy3kuF-yX2wBTMp5HxGs1NkxHLqA_52ga51fV2FMcBwAHNxzkAyEcfU_bpHw1OD8u0WPMTlFQRbisrozAs9BLRqPuD_5pxuyPWZqIkXM9iARupQ6IITvdzBPWJONGDEb7EpQfUK/s400/IMG_0595.JPG" height="371" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do the same for the second circle - only there will be NO BATTING layer</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdp9zSeCP2EG1Y6aRBT6wAmJuBRi3MJ2iW9szPxgLSOoUmeSrkhJ-SCjRFYKjZSqSsls_jlW3FxQklvuL34wPZbY0TEr5ArXV7-ja6y4va8UqFEyEZE0XQdG7yqGSBzNd74_-MKVea1owe/s1600/IMG_0594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdp9zSeCP2EG1Y6aRBT6wAmJuBRi3MJ2iW9szPxgLSOoUmeSrkhJ-SCjRFYKjZSqSsls_jlW3FxQklvuL34wPZbY0TEr5ArXV7-ja6y4va8UqFEyEZE0XQdG7yqGSBzNd74_-MKVea1owe/s400/IMG_0594.JPG" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<span style="color: red;">*handsewing alert!</span> Then whipstitch your two circles together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBDGd7Yb_u7uHSOR2eK_iF_DenzenOvQRhQIGULjOKDJkuF_4EMvZi0coQHjQVr6oA-CTN5juQzl1EyelN8UL_CbOSxiWnlE1yo-Hxuh2JU3eILuaQTCEOBB0fmmHd8QqVie4-3zLHNgSQ/s1600/IMG_0599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBDGd7Yb_u7uHSOR2eK_iF_DenzenOvQRhQIGULjOKDJkuF_4EMvZi0coQHjQVr6oA-CTN5juQzl1EyelN8UL_CbOSxiWnlE1yo-Hxuh2JU3eILuaQTCEOBB0fmmHd8QqVie4-3zLHNgSQ/s400/IMG_0599.JPG" height="240" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="color: red;">*handsewing alert! </span>Now you need to sew the base to one end of the fabric tube.<br />
Move the inner layer out of the way and stitch the finished base - batting side out, to the hemmed edge. There is a little bit of give in the fabric tube, so just ease onto the base as neatly as you can.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn2bibBC5YEwSjfAYnQ6y6YOPpo1OExiWiwioavN7U29v38nJBrlVPve3wxvtVsQY41VOs42hJkNlYYW8tIaAd-TCXYo4efHsH5mVyJNdyBmlw14IzOz8NTsYMKhmE0gHDhnZRglKspVgH/s1600/IMG_0602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn2bibBC5YEwSjfAYnQ6y6YOPpo1OExiWiwioavN7U29v38nJBrlVPve3wxvtVsQY41VOs42hJkNlYYW8tIaAd-TCXYo4efHsH5mVyJNdyBmlw14IzOz8NTsYMKhmE0gHDhnZRglKspVgH/s400/IMG_0602.JPG" height="392" width="400" /></a></div>
That is the first side done.<br />
In the photo below you will see the sewn base on the left and the loose end on the right.<br />
Push the base all the way through, past the rigilene rim, to meet up with the unsewn fabric on the right.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpRjrfqpVTXAcy_nnQyQ3JBPQbpp1bkM0Dpa5CPSe03Yj1v0bu-7UoWV7kJknyyptq3N3dDqkg8TLCXMnAtYtcOZOLQ46X7riF2qg94eUzzyeDmcsDRwbSyHdDPZUeSqGykhwUweiYt4Do/s1600/IMG_0607.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpRjrfqpVTXAcy_nnQyQ3JBPQbpp1bkM0Dpa5CPSe03Yj1v0bu-7UoWV7kJknyyptq3N3dDqkg8TLCXMnAtYtcOZOLQ46X7riF2qg94eUzzyeDmcsDRwbSyHdDPZUeSqGykhwUweiYt4Do/s400/IMG_0607.JPG" height="220" width="400" /></a></div>
The picture below shows what you will end up with, it's just photographed from the other side.<br />
As long as you've pushed the base through and can see where you need to attach the lining you are doing the right thing. Pushing it through creates the "lip" of the bin too. The batting side will be inside the bin and the flat base with no batting will be on the outside so it will stand up flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: red; text-align: left;">*handsewing alert! </span>More hand sewing, but you're only a circle away from finishing!</div>

The only way I am going to catch up with blog news is to do a couple of bulk posts…I’ll call them MAY and JUNE, but there will be a bit of an overlap, so don’t hold me to correct dates!<br />
and there’s nothing like a life in pictures to say it all…<br />
But first I can happily say that the sewing machine cover (pictures in the previous post) I made for the Modern She Made Swap was a huge hit! Here’s the link to <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/21172587@N06/8744905287/in/photostream/" target="_blank">Cathy’s photostream and comments</a>.<br />
<br />
I'd signed up for a<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/2164078@N24/"> fabric basket swap</a> on flickr, so I drafted a pattern for a rectangle kaleidoscope, based on the tutorial from <a href="http://narcolepticinacupboard.blogspot.ie/p/blog-page.html" target="_blank">Narcoleptic in a cupboard</a><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-cHteSXzi89c/UdDmSichIOI/AAAAAAAAJac/PeBVeXjoc6Y/s1600-h/IMG_6754%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Red side" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-C0bLXbuRYao/UdDmTRK27vI/AAAAAAAAJak/tK_a-FQNAdI/IMG_6754_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Red side" width="244" /></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-oA085-WgcMk/UdDmUXWfOfI/AAAAAAAAJas/04RLL0izOWA/s1600-h/IMG_6755%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="orange side" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Ph8pjyjZxQY/UdDmU5GO6BI/AAAAAAAAJa0/Dvq0284qeHs/IMG_6755_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="orange side" width="244" /></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-eIBbul5HejA/UdDmV6M-PEI/AAAAAAAAJa8/3udpv2jF44E/s1600-h/Img_6803b%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="One rainbow side completed" border="0" height="173" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-VPhq_i6O8No/UdDmWq3-s-I/AAAAAAAAJbE/6z5wcpxguME/Img_6803b_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="One rainbow side completed" width="244" /></a><br />
and set about making a perfect basket, along the way picking up the perfect lining from one of the two GWSMQG Sunday Sewalongs that have been on in the past two months.<br />

Just as an aside, our Modern Quilt guild has incorportated and now we are all official …just to prove it…here’s the badge!<br />
<br />
What was I saying..oh yes the basket…well that descended into more angst because those beautiful panels were so darn thick at the ends that I couldn’t send it to anyone…let alone the blogger/designer I was partnered with!<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-B-0uciWpXXw/UdDmbz9ldNI/AAAAAAAAJb8/JQpv-caKdRs/s1600-h/IMG_6800%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="I should have cut off the wing bit on the end" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-hPbV_3syjx0/UdDmcXn9BPI/AAAAAAAAJcE/QL-TCyNgihU/IMG_6800_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="I should have cut off the wing bit on the end" width="244" /></a><br />

So what’s a desperate, deadline-dodging, damsel do? Grab a cuppa tea, and go cut some hexagons and triangles in orange and grey FMF – luckily another of my partners “likes” and quickly whip up another basket.<br />

I also sent off this little organiser wallet (I was sending off <b>very</b> late),which was made from more GWSMQG fabric that was being de-stashed by one person only to be re-stashed by me.<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-AIjtzSzNbVY/UdDml8FcT_I/AAAAAAAAJds/nFvxzTm-h0w/s1600-h/IMG_0368%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Organiser wallet from this tutorialhttp://www.lbg-studio.com/2011/10/12-days-of-christmas-blog-hop-organizer.html" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sGA2UgvCUp8/UdDmmtVTACI/AAAAAAAAJd0/ZK8p96FeAEI/IMG_0368_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Organiser wallet from this tutorialhttp://www.lbg-studio.com/2011/10/12-days-of-christmas-blog-hop-organizer.html" width="279" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-PMYBfG-fiaQ/UdDmnRUdIuI/AAAAAAAAJd8/YSxWhtFPpFI/s1600-h/IMG_0369%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Wallet closed with elastic" border="0" height="218" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-zFNlOnAlIBs/UdDmn2Zs7WI/AAAAAAAAJeE/PfhBy4_I6nY/IMG_0369_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Wallet closed with elastic" width="178" /></a></div>
I was truly happy <span style="font-size: medium;">happy </span><span style="font-size: large;">happy </span>with the parcel I sent…and so was <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/lorihartman/9071687700/in/pool-2164078@N24" target="_blank">Lori</a><br />
(It might seem like I’m trumpeting my own horn – but after all angst and inner turmoil I went through with these swaps, you’d understand my <em>relief</em> in knowing that they were a hit.) <br />
And just to prove that nothing runs smoothly, …I thought I’d be smart and cut and sew the lining a tad smaller so it wouldn’t be too loose…<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-f1nIFPiEkj8/UdDmojFigyI/AAAAAAAAJeM/ckVLH0wE6kc/s1600-h/IMG_6815%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="too small orange lining" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-rY8Un_F9WIk/UdDmpX-J8cI/AAAAAAAAJeU/KhYj393KOY8/IMG_6815_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="too small orange lining" width="244" /></a><br />
now I have a basket lining in search of a skinny basket!<br />
<br />

My partner was <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/staceyinstitches/" target="_blank">Stacey</a> and she got me totally right! If you want a bit of eye candy, have a look at her <a href="http://staceyinstitches.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/madrona-road-challenge-quilt/">Madrona Road challenge quilt</a>...she sent me some of her lovely hexagons in the basket!<br />

I made a flag to send to Boston. My local guild, GWSMQG are sending some off. I foundation pieced this kangaroo and the heart and fmq’d (sorry for using that as a verb!) "peace". There will be thousands of flags from all over the world and I wanted to show that peace and good wishes were coming from as far away as Australia.<br />

You'll need to get a wriggle on though…they have to be in by <b>MAY 21st</b>.<br />
<br />
The last <span style="background-color: yellow;">OUT</span> to talk about is this sewing machine cover I made for the Modern She Made Swap – also a Flickr swap...my partner hasn't got it yet, so I won't say who it's for or show it all.<br />
I found this one a real challenge, as I couldn't quite work out what to do for my partner…her mosaic had a water theme, lots of blues and greens and a liking for things “British”. Also the item had to have a “star” somewhere in it. Here’s what I ended up making.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-7iTnezwwQ_0/UY2EHWCl8cI/AAAAAAAAJVo/r-D1XK_12e8/s1600-h/2013-04-24%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Mosaic of sewing machine cover and lining" border="0" height="233" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Ozn1GS9ivYs/UY2EIM32KzI/AAAAAAAAJVw/2elvuCTkWe0/2013-04-24_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Mosaic of sewing machine cover and lining" width="320" /></a><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ISk5zQ9pzeM/UY2EIxQvbxI/AAAAAAAAJV4/_Qu8R0viqV0/s1600-h/IMG_6732%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Front of cover with "waves"" border="0" height="247" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Mf8YLlHQVwE/UY2EJgRhm_I/AAAAAAAAJWA/hoBJf7901VQ/IMG_6732_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Front of cover with "waves"" width="314" /></a><br />
In the end I am really happy with how it turned out…it took a while to work out the design, and it changed regularly, and I did some pebble quilting, so I stretched myself and learnt something new about technique and design in the process.<br />
And as a tie-in with both swaps, some of the hexagons on this project were sent to me from Stacey in her scrap pack...clever huh?<br />
And one other piece that literally 'fell' into place - I couldn't work out what to bind it with, none of the solids would work properly and then my precariously balanced DS fabrics fell onto the floor at my feet and out of the bag spilled the blue bubble colourway...spooky!<br />
<br />
And I know you are asking “but,where is the theme star?”…<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-h4HeJgmwee8/UY2EKLrV8gI/AAAAAAAAJWI/d8sNDYUP54s/s1600-h/IMG_6748%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Sewing machine cover - side panel" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-4NX1QuNJnYs/UY2EKwcRkaI/AAAAAAAAJWQ/27p9-JVqZQA/IMG_6748_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Sewing machine cover - side panel" width="184" /></a><br />
…a pair of “friendship” stars on either end panel!<br />

Sometimes the fun I have with sewing just makes me smile inside and out...<br />

<br />
Who'd have thought a pair of scissors could be this much fun?<br />
<br />
Paper piecing along with Kristy @QuietPlay's <a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/p/and-sew-on-paper-pieced-bom.html">"And-Sew-On BOM"</a> This pattern is free till the end of April.<br />
May's block is not too far away either.<br />
My January and February blocks are <a href="http://quilary1.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/february-finishes-swaps-and-boms.html">here</a>...March is still on the cutting board...oops!<br />

I finished up this mini quilt for the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/dsquiltsdollquiltswaps/">DSDQ swap#4 </a>while I was at the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/groups/115182861960745/">GWSMQG Sunday Sewalong.</a><br />
I've used Flea Market Fancy in this quilt and at the guild meeting, I got a good look at Sheridan's original FMF stash, to compare colours and see first hand those lovely prints that didn't make the reprint.<br />
The solid is Kona Ash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWfjQg0_02aQEWkggEZTcH22tVSWRNawZdRBHa977-p_o67Tv5A0-DnMcMocKlWg5DH5dV5QRJozHSngAH4hxK-SPqpbCc3iccDAeXQKfunIYQmSycm1laaI7Z3M-blrFZtNkuRrvwwzW2/s640/blogger-image-2123407197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWfjQg0_02aQEWkggEZTcH22tVSWRNawZdRBHa977-p_o67Tv5A0-DnMcMocKlWg5DH5dV5QRJozHSngAH4hxK-SPqpbCc3iccDAeXQKfunIYQmSycm1laaI7Z3M-blrFZtNkuRrvwwzW2/s400/blogger-image-2123407197.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I made a single fold binding and machine sewed it down. I'm getting much better...I only missed two corners...easily and neatly fixed though!<br />
<br />
I have one sad little reject block - I forgot to leave a 1/4" seam allowance along the diagonal,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
so I am going to make that into a potholder today (I knew that Insul-Bright I bought all those years ago would eventually get a run) and I can use Leona's timely <a href="http://oneygirl-myquiltingadventure.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/sew-lux-charm-madness-blog-hop.html">"insertion strip" tutorial</a><br />

Two very nice surprises in the last two days...<br />
<br />
This book has come into my possession, via a win from the <a href="http://blog.shopmartingale.com/quilting-sewing/happy-anniversary-stitch-this-blog/" target="_blank">StitchThis! blog anniversary giveaway</a>…<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Martingale - Large-Block Quilts (Print version + eBook bundle)" src="http://www.shopmartingale.com/images/thumbnails/56/200/b1159_c.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
It is an eBook so I was able to download it instantly…and it has some great quilt ideas for jellyroll and charm pack precuts! It was such an easy and quick process and so very, very tempting to browse their other titles...restraint is called for!<br />
<br />
Then there is this lovely bundle of goodness<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Plethora of Pinata's prize pack" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFDc7vV5_D3Ud0fOk6CuOwWQiFe-VGz2Rm1kqkQDdqc4jJ9889GKiNxSQ1uEWYYHBKQsVLKQrnnHhOYt__PapCgmTFq684wefMKoyRQB4ymSlRWvhNU3CAEzrh6I7iANHTIXHiqpdciyE/s320/DSC01502.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Plethora of Pinata's prize pack" /></td></tr>

<br />
it will be coming my way…courtesy of Caitlin from <a href="http://lethargiclass.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/we-have-winner.html?showComment=1364776815530#c6165399605354669016" target="_blank">Plethora of Pinatas</a>.<br />
It was her first blog anniversary give away and I was the lucky winner...<br />

I'v decided to use Bloglovin' since Google reader is about to bite the dust. It doesn't have all the organising features that I liked in reader, but at least all the blogs I follow have been moved to a safe place!<br />

This link will allow you to follow my blog, if you choose to use this platform too.<br />
It will work even better if I actually post something....<br />

With a rush, a sense of purpose and armed with the real thing, I set about making February's paper pieced block for <a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/p/and-sew-on-paper-pieced-bom.html" target="_blank">QuietPlay’s - And Sew On Block of the Month.</a> - suddenly it was 28 February and I had no more days left!<br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-EnsUKlte77Y/UTCNZB8RHrI/AAAAAAAAHw8/5sCZ0MezomQ/s1600-h/And%252520%252520Sew%252520On%252520BoM%252520-%252520Little%252520Ripper%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="And Sew On BoM - Little Ripper" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/--4hu8-Rod78/UTCNZvOzpxI/AAAAAAAAHxE/akdWu3iSLvc/And%252520%252520Sew%252520On%252520BoM%252520-%252520Little%252520Ripper_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="And Sew On BoM - Little Ripper" width="240" /></a></div>
You can find the link to March’s free block on <a href="http://http//quietplay.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/and-sew-on-march-block.html" target="_blank">Kristy’s blog - Quiet Play</a>. It’s free for the month and then will be available for sale after that (just so you know).<br />
Here’s a reminder of what my January block looks like.<br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-8bswZ5lmBDM/UTCNaR3whXI/AAAAAAAAHxM/qeHsK-vWEgU/s1600-h/IMG_6498%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Block1 "Measure Twice"" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jDal4xWYnzw/UTCNawh9bxI/AAAAAAAAHxU/PUpVsV-InWs/IMG_6498_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Block1 "Measure Twice"" width="241" /></a></div>
Looks like I’m going for a blue, green, orange and yellow theme.<br />

Another Feb finish is this basket for the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/modernscrappybitsswap/" target="_blank">Modern Scrappy Bits Swap on Flickr</a><br />

<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-9Pwj92pIGss/UTCNbpTJdfI/AAAAAAAAHxc/jlIffZW4jXM/s1600-h/IMG_6565%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="side one of scrappy basket" border="0" height="185" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MM3cDux41Uk/UTCNcSirheI/AAAAAAAAHxk/eyJKgM4qwLg/IMG_6565_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="side one of scrappy basket" width="244" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-HfLIP6IZOis/UTCNcwRM34I/AAAAAAAAHxs/YZQKp012Xa8/s1600-h/IMG_6564%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="other side of scrappy fabric basket" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-oq-oiMRF370/UTCNdlDmqeI/AAAAAAAAHx0/Qaz68v46X7w/IMG_6564_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="other side of scrappy fabric basket" width="244" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
It’s a generous 13” x 9” x 6”.</div>
<div align="center">
I laid out the charm squares in 4 rows of 3, 5, 5 and 3. I added a 2” x 14" piece of solid to fit the 3 block ends (at the top and bottom of the picture below) and a 2" x 9 1/2" to fit the 2 charm square sides (on the left and right hand sides of the picture below). This was to make the side heights up to 6” finished – otherwise they would have finished at 4 1/2” and I think that would have looked a bit skimpy.</div>
<div align="center">
<img alt="charm square layout for basket" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-jl8KCpwDK9Q/UTCNeC7nClI/AAAAAAAAHx8/ykqqF067g60/IMG_6553_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="charm square layout for basket" width="244" /></div>
<div align="center">
The handles are two pieces of 4” x 8” pieces of Kona Ice Frappe solid. I ironed a thin pellon to them, folded them in half, and sewed a 1/2”. They were turned right side out, the seam centered and then top stitched a 1/4” in from each end and then another 1/4” in from the first lines of stitching. The look just the right amount of puffy and sturdy!</div>
<div align="center">
The lining is a lovely piece of <a href="http://freespiritfabric.com/core-pages/gallery.php?gal_id=294&sw_id=4065" target="_blank">McKenzie by Dena designs</a> that I have held on to for a while.</div>
<div align="center">
It’s really quite therapeutic to cut into something that has been hoarded for almost 2 years!</div>
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-BjJ-0IqBcec/UTCNe7-0ZDI/AAAAAAAAHyE/yhknaaTLMWY/s1600-h/IMG_6557%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="paisley lining" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-QLe1iYbHgPU/UTCNfbCiI5I/AAAAAAAAHyM/UMffJ6OENaI/IMG_6557_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="paisley lining" width="244" /></a>I have a book on making paper boxes and this template format is a simple way to make fabric bags too. It’s just a matter of doing the maths and having faith that the pellon will give the basket a bit of shape and body. If you Google “diagrams for fabric baskets” or words to that effect you will find plenty of inspiration and maybe the maths done already.</div>
<div align="center">
It’s a simple matter of sewing the matching short sides together to get a lovely rectangle bottom basket, that I hope my secret swap partner will find very useful.</div>
<div align="center">
Of course, it’s not called a "scrappy swap" for nothing…here’s a sneak peek at some of the fabric scraps that will go with the basket.</div>

More sewing is on the agenda this weekend…I have to make the most of the days before Netball and Soccer start again…and I've still got the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/dsquiltsdollquiltswaps/">DS Doll Quilt swap</a> on Flickr to begin making as well as the <a href="http://quilary1.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/party-time.html">21st quilt</a> to finish<br />
<br />
While I'm off sewing, I'll leave you drooling…<br />

Well Hello…it’s been a while…but for good reasons…<br />
<br />
There’s been a 21st birthday party here for this little fellow…<br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-qwAlXzLY85k/USS4ZIZzPOI/AAAAAAAAHsw/Bd9SCdUu8To/s1600-h/kinder%252520photo%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="The young man at 6" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ooOBOVEzLdE/USS4aNcyVWI/AAAAAAAAHs4/FhQxxLI7pVY/kinder%252520photo_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="The young man at 6" width="204" /></a></div>
Preparation for a 16th birthday party for this little lady…<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-YPmsmroNQ58/USS4a-lRyxI/AAAAAAAAHtA/MJTGQD5jPrQ/s1600-h/preschool%252520photo%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="The little lady at 4" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-SZ0hLJ7-h60/USS4bktkRuI/AAAAAAAAHtI/kPDeOjZiBYc/preschool%252520photo_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="The little lady at 4" width="204" /></a><br />
Though I know the answer, I still keep asking “where did all those years go?”<br />
<br />
As the children grow up, the theory is that I will have more time to do what I would like to do…sadly it is still just a <strong><em>theory</em></strong>…big ones are<strong><em> hard work too!</em></strong><br />
<br />
All is not completely lost though, the sanity saver, and friendship builder, that is the <a href="http://gwsmodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/sunday-sewalong-dates/">GWSMQG Sunday Sewalong</a>, happens once a month. My sewing machine gets dragged along to get a bit of a run! One day I will have something finished to show!!<br />
In the mean time, here is the paper piecing I have been partying along with:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Ok5cRSPtjQ0/USS4cneIf1I/AAAAAAAAHtQ/CPUk5gwv7LE/s1600-h/IMG_6516%25255B4%25255D.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Kaleidoscope star pieced at GWSMQG Sewalong Sunday" border="0" height="266" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pomphgsuqCk/USS4eG3of0I/AAAAAAAAHtY/YygREiH7YzU/IMG_6516_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Kaleidoscope star pieced at GWSMQG Sewalong Sunday" width="338" /></a></div>
<br />
and a whole lot of partying with these….<br />

This is the quilt for the 21st…it’s alright I’m only keeping to my tradition of having these late for my own children…<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
***************************************************</div>
So I don’t run out of things to do I have joined up for:<br />
<br />
* 2 Flickr swaps – <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/dsquiltsdollquiltswaps/" target="_blank">The DS Doll Quilt Swap</a> and <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/modernscrappybitsswap/" target="_blank">Modern Scrappy Bits Swap</a> are both due early to mid March…I’d better get a wriggle on there and start turning up on Flickr!<br />
<br />
* My other favourite Flickr group – <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/modernshemade/" target="_blank">Modern She Made</a>, is opening up signups on 25 February…do <i>you</i> dare? DO <b><i>I</i></b> DARE?<br />
<br />
* Quiet Play’s <a href="http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/and-sew-on-february-block.html" target="_blank">And Sew On...BoM</a>- the next one is an "unpicker"…I should have a competition to guess how many times I need to use the real thing to make the block…at least there is no deadline for this one.<br />
<br />
* <a href="http://gwsmodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">GWSMQG</a> has started a challenge and the info is on their <a href="http://www.facebook.com/groups/115182861960745/" target="_blank">facebook page</a> – for this one, I have till April to finish – plenty of pondering time to work out the main colour.<br />
<br />
Well that’s me back on the blogging wagon – till I next fall off…<br />
<br />

New curtains were desperately needed in the <em>over the fence</em> household.<br />
<br />
There was the unfortunate Curtain and Candle Catastrophe of Christmas Day (a bit of poetic licence there as <em>technically</em> it was Boxing Day but we were really <em>celebrating Christmas </em>with the MaTH’s side of the family).<br />
Anyway nothing but a pair of curtains was harmed in the making of the catastrophe, but it was curtains for the curtains!<br />
It was a smokin’ hot day.<br />
I’ll get to the point shortly but I’m on fire with the puns.<br />
Enough already!<br />
<br />
I shouldn’t make too light of it…I was shocked at how quickly a little flame can take hold, and the Christmas tree was right next to the curtains, which could have led to a much worse scenario.<br />
<br />
At least there has been some productive sewing happening.<br />
<br />
I still can’t seem to get all of the pins out of the way, whether it’s a quilt block or curtains.<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-w3-PO1nFbTY/UQSvtJHsTBI/AAAAAAAAHZI/y4RCOh0ns8g/s1600-h/IMG_644640.jpg"><img alt="pins in the pleating tape" border="0" height="291" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-4RH_5eajgas/UQSvu9aYXdI/AAAAAAAAHZQ/w_nwG9KZais/IMG_6446_thumb37.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="pins in the pleating tape" width="370" /></a><br />
Pencil pleats….<br />

The MaTH and I had an <a href="http://quilary1.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/australia-day-2013.html" target="_blank">Australia Day</a> excursion to <a href="http://www.spotlight.com.au/" target="_blank">Spotlight</a> (<em>I know – imagine getting a husband into Spotlight – the trade off was going to </em><a href="http://www.bunnings.com.au/" target="_blank"><em>Bunnings</em></a><em> first!).</em> I bought new white poles because these gorgeous curtains just do not go with the brown poles that were there before.<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-FDgsQSq3mns/UQSv1abjQ3I/AAAAAAAAHZ4/RkKU7SzDehU/s1600-h/IMG_6506%25255B46%25255D.jpg"><img alt="New Family Room curtains" border="0" height="352" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-uNpcbG-VqRc/UQSv2ghaO1I/AAAAAAAAHaA/F9tdJZgvgxc/IMG_6506_thumb%25255B43%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="New Family Room curtains" width="217" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
With the curtains back up, I'm off to do some fun sewing...this rainy weather is a perfect excuse for staying inside.</div>

At the end of 2012, I realised that I had bought more fabric in that year, than ever before.<br />
<br />
I justified these purchases by the number of swap groups I was in, some pretty good deals that were floating around and a vague feeling of “wanting”<br />
<br />
I intend to keep joining swaps….after all I think that if it weren't for the deadline of swaps, I wouldn't have even made it to the sewing machine as much as I did last year.<br />
<br />
However, I now have a huge stash, lots of books, patterns and bookmarked projects, and it’s about time I committed to using what I have.<br />
The sewing room is tidy.<br />
<br />
The stash is neat.<br />
<br />
The UFO’s are all in one handy to get at spot.<br />
<br />
My mantra for 2013 is going to be:<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>"No more fabric</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>No more books</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>Use what I have"</i></span></div>
In the interests of full disclosure, here is the last of the 2012 purchases (um...except there are 2 “reserved” precuts that will ship sometime this year, which might help with the whole withdrawal symptoms bit!)<br />
<div align="center">

I've been slowly adding my computer bookmarks to pinterest…all of my boards are <a href="http://pinterest.com/quilary/" target="_blank">here</a>, and there are a few quilt-a-longs that I'm joining in with, which hopefully will all make a big dent in the fabric hoarding.<br />

The end of the year has come! The sewing room is looking worse for wear and demands a tidy up.<br />
To make me feel better, I’ve snuck in a few finishes for the year…<br />
Emma your block is finally on it’s way.<br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pv5hJTbXmkM/UODmQP2wx6I/AAAAAAAAHTo/TE8qJt5AA4Q/s1600-h/IMG_6425%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Circle of geese for SBH 2012" border="0" height="220" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-YnZ36ew9ZVc/UODmR3qzJ2I/AAAAAAAAHTw/mpGjOQutZZs/IMG_6425_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Circle of geese for SBH 2012" width="244" /></a></div>
The demo pouch from SIT 2012 finally has it’s strap <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jQk7TUzZirQ/UODmT4d5jEI/AAAAAAAAHT4/Fq0Gynanz7o/s1600-h/IMG_6428%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="Scrappy pouch" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-HxKF6--apbk/UODmV_wPdfI/AAAAAAAAHUA/wb5zhiOMYgM/IMG_6428_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Scrappy pouch" width="244" /></a><br />
…and I get to start the new year with a walking foot that will do the job properly..<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-shZx-7zWG08/UODmXfJTc9I/AAAAAAAAHUI/LBhmPX1TBIM/s1600-h/IMG_6422%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6422" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ymdUiZPAZQI/UODmZEdP__I/AAAAAAAAHUQ/shI4Y1j6AUU/IMG_6422_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_6422" width="184" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I managed to break off the plastic hook from overuse…that’s a good sign right?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Jjfh1XkrevQ/UODmbIqShoI/AAAAAAAAHUY/3BEX6RRhEfE/s1600-h/IMG_6420%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6420" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-TZfHqYkD8WI/UODmcl5t6lI/AAAAAAAAHUg/twizFgr3zFw/IMG_6420_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_6420" width="230" /></a></div>
Now the new one runs like a dream and maybe those quilts I’ve put off finishing will get done!<br />
Well I’m off to the best fireworks party for New Years Eve - Sydney Harbour - I’ll be watching from Vaucluse, from my sister place.<br />

Hope you all had a very Happy Christmas. Our Christmas lasts two days -on Christmas Day we spent the day with my side of the family at my brothers place, and on Boxing Day we hosted the MaTH's side of the family - I've been in a Christmas induced "coma" since!<br />
<br />
I am slowly awakening, and what better reason than for some<br />

When Leona put up her new blog header I thought it would make a great modern quilt block. It was a bit of fun to make – it just involved a few rectangles and sewing on side strips that were then trimmed at an angle before the next one was added.<br />
<br />
It was supposed to arrive in time for her birthday on 23 October – oh well 2 months late….hmmm that reminds me of something that I <a href="http://quilary1.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/mystery.html" target="_blank">blogged about</a> halfway through the year.<br />

We are spending Christmas Day at my brothers place and 3 of my siblings will be there with all their families, so we will have a lovely, loud and happy celebration together.<br />
<br />
On Boxing Day we will be hosting "Christmas" for my husbands side of the family...there will only be 8 of his 11 siblings - plus families - there so it will be a louder, but equally happy and lovely celebration together.<br />
<br />
I'm off to finish the desserts and crack the whip to get the kids help finish tiding/cleaning the house. Wish me luck!<br />

Poor neglected blog!<br />
It is so mad at me, I even had to retype the URL into the search bar…<br />
Just a tad busy at this time of year.<br />
Sorted scraps ready for GWSMQG Sewalong Sunday – December 9<br />

Scrappy Circle of Geese is Emma’s block for <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1481102@N24/" target="_blank">Sew & Bee Happy</a> – it will get finished now that I’ve made the Christmas presents I needed to finish.<br />

Soaking fruit and Christmas cake making –started on December 8<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-jRJG0A-0jnQ/UNYz67WO1uI/AAAAAAAAHLQ/ssg8QlxOFtk/s1600-h/IMG_63593.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6359" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-i2ebWh36D1U/UNYz9Hl6DyI/AAAAAAAAHLY/Jqls9EQRwyk/IMG_6359_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_6359" width="244" /></a><br />
It tipped the scales at a whopping 4.9kg<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-JoLLnPXeZt8/UNYz_BxhyQI/AAAAAAAAHLg/pk42QMhWVC4/s1600-h/IMG_63543.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6354" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-CCiqkTEpfxk/UNY0A1DRJlI/AAAAAAAAHLo/W17pO1lfwEw/IMG_6354_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_6354" width="244" /></a><br />
Luckily the recipe will make a 23cm cake and a boiled pudding and about 50 fruit mince pies. Rather than a cooked pudding, I'm going to make an ice cream pudding…a nice treat for a hot summers Christmas Day.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-klaLstW8x4U/UNY0DF0gHEI/AAAAAAAAHLw/gJLv3py9mVI/s1600-h/IMG_63673.jpg"><img alt="Ye Olde Stained Recipe" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-CTE0zCSIvz0/UNY0FBBlp4I/AAAAAAAAHL4/I63sclMMufo/IMG_6367_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="Ye Olde Stained Recipe" width="244" /></a><br />
This is just before it went into the oven, and I can tick off ”Cake cooked and ready to let the flavour develop” – December 18<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-DE3CQmeMaU8/UNY0HdMfanI/AAAAAAAAHMA/hsiGa5AWYz8/s1600-h/IMG_6399%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6399" border="0" height="203" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6rdBFEcfhNc/UNY0JAhYGMI/AAAAAAAAHMI/cYw7ZFtM5Gw/IMG_6399_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_6399" width="244" /></a><br />

I signed up for this swap over at <a href="http://www.alittlebirdtoldme-craft.com/2012/10/handmade-ornament-swap-2012.html" target="_blank">Christina's blog</a>.<br />
I've been a bit quiet on the updates, but I've had a blinder of a sewing day today and have my little parcel well and truly ready to be posted on time.<br />
The basket of Christmas fabric and theses buttons have been lying around to get a bit of Christmas mood going.<br />

I used <a href="http://www.favequilts.com/Quilted-Ornaments/Scrappy-Christmas-Tree-Ornaments/ct/1" target="_blank">this tutorial</a> for inspiration and had a bit of scrappy fun.<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-HUKMxJM3v4U/ULSAWoYbBRI/AAAAAAAAHEs/bnj_BZpkn1o/s1600-h/IMG_6275%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="scrappy fabric" border="0" height="193" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-gvdE23I8cZI/ULSAX4MDJbI/AAAAAAAAHEw/PxmB75BnUp8/IMG_6275_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="scrappy fabric" width="244" /></a><span style="color: #cc3300;"></span><br />

While going through my scraps I found two tumbler shapes – they look a bit like trees – so I turned them into an ornament too.<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-BmGFp1hS69U/ULSAcpSTlWI/AAAAAAAAHFM/pvvRy8nl04o/s1600-h/IMG_6279%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="tumbler blocks" border="0" height="223" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-q-NyL85C5CU/ULSAeK9z13I/AAAAAAAAHFU/_CuMl9eCRU0/IMG_6279_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="tumbler blocks" width="244" /></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0dLNX09qfGY/ULSAf6dOJYI/AAAAAAAAHFc/Lmlz9hdOaEI/s1600-h/IMG_6281%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="sewing tumbler trees" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-7AA7CIJ6sps/ULSGhqRRUoI/AAAAAAAAHGM/QMbFQrdKsPA/IMG_6281_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="sewing tumbler trees" width="223" /></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4jzyKxh0nLY/ULSGjW4PZrI/AAAAAAAAHGU/_ZR11UnAURU/s1600-h/IMG_6282%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="tumbler tree bases" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-S9VHAcFwXxA/ULSGkhjml_I/AAAAAAAAHGY/N7A8TUlUj78/IMG_6282_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="tumbler tree bases" width="244" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-giYwlY0wkmw/ULSGmAf6KwI/AAAAAAAAHGk/vVoYL7zjbaQ/s1600-h/IMG_6285%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="tumbler tree" border="0" height="179" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ekP-fXOgssk/ULSGnA86lvI/AAAAAAAAHGo/EgRyPaebIaQ/IMG_6285_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="tumbler tree" width="244" /></a><br />
After a fair bit of wrangling (and perhaps some unladylike language),<br />
I ended up with this sweet little tree.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-CKV5t29P-9g/ULSGoUiBfHI/AAAAAAAAHG0/fr4M4N_iDjI/s1600-h/IMG_6295%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="ornaments" border="0" height="242" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-O8strYD21iY/ULSGpRUOHBI/AAAAAAAAHG8/EiJcshYkZWo/IMG_6295_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="ornaments" width="244" /></a><br />
Then I remembered that I had this fabric left over from another project.<br />
At the time I thought that they’d make an interesting sort of ornament…rather than waste such a great idea, I set to work…<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-hwRpaqzyl4s/ULSGrIE_njI/AAAAAAAAHHE/y1uR8hZX8JQ/s1600-h/IMG_6300%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="michael miller houses" border="0" height="184" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GrcJ5OVoQ3Y/ULSGuc5Mr8I/AAAAAAAAHHM/-d1tL420Ep0/IMG_6300_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="michael miller houses" width="244" /></a><br />

<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-36zgBSOk1po/ULSGwV0XdxI/AAAAAAAAHHU/gOqgzvSaRXQ/s1600-h/IMG_6301%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="beach house ornament" border="0" height="244" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-PaAuSvd7DI4/ULSGxld4SXI/AAAAAAAAHHc/qHw4HnBodrk/IMG_6301_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="beach house ornament" width="184" /></a><br />

<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pGfRaEf6S1U/ULSG0F_8IpI/AAAAAAAAHHk/GRGfp2gEHp0/s1600-h/IMG_6307%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="trio of ornaments" border="0" height="228" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KixdqHYqwdo/ULSG1N0fKaI/AAAAAAAAHHs/UQbqoujTgVw/IMG_6307_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="trio of ornaments" width="244" /></a><br />
Thanks <a href="http://www.alittlebirdtoldme-craft.com/" target="_blank">Christina</a> for organising the swap. I still have a <a href="http://www.alittlebirdtoldme-craft.com/2012/11/swap-link-progress.html" target="_blank">few other ornament bloggers</a> to visit and see what they’ve made…you might like some inspiration for your Christmas crafting too.<br />

I had a doctors appointment today and packed a little hand sewing – I knew I’d be in for a bit of a wait.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tl9u5Mp_PlM/UKIWizJOBpI/AAAAAAAAHAY/1jVd31FxbXI/s1600-h/IMG_6217%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="lovely goodies" border="0" height="229" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vtVAWuObdv4/UKIX8s122dI/AAAAAAAAHAo/i9ourQxNyPc/IMG_6217_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="lovely goodies" width="400" /></a></div>
I packed a few supplies that have been collected over time – the red and white zip pouch from <a href="http://oneygirl-myquiltingadventure.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/birthday-club-sign-ups-begin-today.html" target="_blank">Leona’s birthday club</a> (head on over to join up if you’d like to receive a nice surprise in the mail on your birthday!)<br />
The lovely large zip pouch from the <a href="http://www.sewittogether.com.au/" target="_blank">SewItTogether</a> Canberra Swap and the Kate Spain hexagons bought from <a href="http://www.pbpatch.com.au/patchwork/" target="_blank">Joanne from PossumBlossomPatch</a> at her shop at SIT Canberra.<br />
<br />
Oh no! one ingredient missing… the papers!<br />
Time for a bit of improvisation -<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-zO0ayvITJl0/UKIYBTi0byI/AAAAAAAAHAw/rwrK8PAcyIM/s1600-h/IMG_6211%25255B3%25255D.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="improvised hexy papers" border="0" height="301" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-4WWu4NIu76k/UKIYDCu9u0I/AAAAAAAAHA4/S51HWKLMzuc/IMG_6211_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="improvised hexy papers" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">dodgy waiting room photo </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I just found the best use for all those supermarket receipts and ATM balances! The centre one is a “post-it” note – they are rather more stable than receipts…just in case you ever find yourself in the same situation…<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-d8ijwiWP6kM/UKIlf1QHyMI/AAAAAAAAHCk/maFaqMBSD6Y/s1600-h/IMG_6212%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="magic hexagon flower" border="0" height="301" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fCySvK4rRXM/UKIlomZro8I/AAAAAAAAHCs/FT1IRrqZaZQ/IMG_6212_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px; display: inline; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="magic hexagon flower" width="400" /></a></div>
It looks pretty good – just a little bit wonky in the middle – but not too bad at all.<br />
<br />
It certainly better than the news that I have osetoarthritis in my knee :(<br />

But I have a little problem.<br />
The international posting date is 15 November - I’m fine with that – I only have to do the binding.<br />
