New blocks...

Yesterday the neighbours kids dropped in to play with Miss Bee.
Today she jumped over the fence (literally!), so I had a relatively quiet afternoon.

Plenty of time to make these Granny Squares that are Wendi's swap blocks for October.

This little pile is going to be my own sample.

Sneak peek of another block that I finished
blue, red, grey modern block
It's 12 1/2" square and I'm going to quilt and bind it as a mini quilt.

I had this left over from one of the twin's quilts
and when I realised it was the same blue fabric,  spent a bit of time patting myself on the back for making too much in the first place!

Clever?...blogtoberfest Day 23

Not Clever:

and it took me one and a half sides to realise the binding was on the wrong way!
Clever:
I did redeem myself by doing a nice mitred join at the end of the binding!...when I finally had it on the right way.

The finished swap ready to be posted tomorrow:
Not Clever:
I thought I'd be very clever and use a nice stiff pellon to line this bag
however, the sewing machine protested and the tension was all over the place...
All the seams have white or blue threads showing ( I tried to go over the white with blue...even bigger disaster!)
and the pattern wouldn't join up at the sides (but I cleverly took the photo so you can't see the ugly thread showing through!)

Pellon and threads...not one of my most clever choices...I'll use the bag, cause I won't really care about the stitching...but now I need to start again for the person it was meant for...

Under Pressure...

Only 6 more sleeps till Sew It Together 2011.

I've spent today finishing working on my swap items for the sample swap. Apart from having to share the sewing machine will Miss Bee, who wanted to make 2 headbands for her big sister, things that I know I can do, I just kept getting wrong.
On a good day  I can make my own double fold bias pretty quickly. Today...
...I got the direction of the lines wrong...
...I had to unpick the teeny tiny stitches because I forgot to offset the lines by one row!...
...even the seams were dodgy when I got it together!
I waaayyy over estimated how much binding I'd need, and have enough left over to make a crazy binding for the bright quilt that is in the pipeline for Minky.

...and that doesn't include the green that I still have to sew on!
Anyway, despite these annoying hitches, I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out.
This is my favourite little tool,

 and gives the neatest corners.

Four down, 1 1/2 to go! (I had to have a sample one for myself too you know!)

My Creative Space...In a Bind

The last 6 weeks have been creativity heaven.
I 'm just starting to come to terms with the fact that I had to go back to work today.
As soon as I got home, I grabbed a cup of tea, some fabric and my rotary cutter.
Making binding for the GIVEAWAY PRIZE. Entries close this evening so you better get in quick.

Linking up with lots of other Creative Spaces over here.
